OUR CURRICULUM
At Alverbridge Nursery we consider the individual needs, interests, and development of each child in our care. We use this information to plan challenging and enjoyable experiences for each child in all areas of learning and development.
For our youngest children we provide learning experiences to support a strong foundation for their development in the three prime areas. These areas are particularly important for building a foundation to ignite children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
The prime areas are:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal Social and Emotional Development
We also support children in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied.
The specific areas are:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
At Alverbridge we have written our bespoke curriculum based on what we want children to know, understand, and be able to do. Our curriculum is ambitious and carefully sequenced to help children build their learning over time.
For the children in the under-twos room, our curriculum goals are to provide them with opportunities to:
- Have experiences of trips outside of the nursery
- Create in cookery
- Build core strength
- Have experiences using tools
- Explore posting and threading
For the children in the over-twos room, our curriculum goals are to provide them with opportunities to:
- Have experience of trips outside the nursery
- Have experiences using tools
- Create in cookery
- Build core strength
- Take part in a sewing activity
‘Development matters’ sits in the background to inform our curriculum and ensure that it is providing a broad balance of rich learning experiences for all of our children.
